Relaxed companionship during care at home
Respite care at home

Rest for you. Familiar care for someone you love.

Respite care gives family carers protected time to sleep, recover, work, travel or simply be themselves, while the person they support remains at home with a clear routine and a prepared carer.

When respite can help

A pause before exhaustion becomes crisis

Respite may be planned months ahead or needed after an unexpected change. In both cases, a careful handover protects the person's routine and gives the family carer genuine space to step back.

Planned breaks

Time away with peace of mind

Care can be arranged around a holiday, work commitment, family event, treatment or a regular pattern of relief. Planning early gives more time to assess needs, prepare the person and find a carer who fits the household.

Recovery

When the family carer is unwell

If illness, surgery or burnout makes caring temporarily impossible, we explore what short-term support can safely bridge the gap while the family carer recovers.

Trial

Experience professional care

A respite period can help a family understand how outside support feels before considering a longer-term live-in care arrangement.

Routine

The small details matter

Meals, medication, pets, preferred clothes, bedtime habits, communication and meaningful activities are captured in the handover.

Family role

Return as a relative

A proper break can help a spouse, child or friend reconnect with the person they love, rather than carrying every practical task alone.

A safe handover

Continuity cannot be improvised

Even short-term care needs assessment, documentation and preparation. We do not expect families to hold the entire plan in their heads.

01

Choose the dates

Tell us when cover is needed and whether there is flexibility around the start and finish.

02

Assess the care

We document health needs, routines, communication, risks, medication, contacts and contingency plans.

03

Prepare the person

Where possible, introductions and familiarisation reduce uncertainty for the person receiving care.

04

Hand back clearly

The family receives an update on how the period went, including any changes or concerns that need follow-up.

Respite care questions

Planning a proper break

It may cover a short break or several weeks, depending on the person's needs, the staffing model and carer availability. The assessment defines what is suitable rather than applying one fixed duration.
We will always discuss an urgent situation, but safe care still requires essential assessment, checks and a suitable carer. If we cannot meet the need safely or quickly enough, we will say so honestly.
Potentially. We assess the exact need and whether the available team has the right competencies. Read about our
